Even the best siding can become your biggest home maintenance issue if not installed
correctly. At R&C Installation we believe all exterior issues should be addressed properly.
Rotted wood should be replaced, buckled or bowed sheeting
should be straightened and re-nailed or replaced. Masonite
siding and all forms of cedar siding and shakes should be
removed to reveal damage and/or mold caused by failure of
these products.
Once these and any other issues have been addressed properly
then we can begin to waterproof your home's exterior. This
is accomplished by applying a quality underlayment, taping
all seams, creating a blanket. Then sealing this blanket
at the bottom by installing a foundation base cap or flashing.
Further sealing this blanket with approved sealant behind
J-channel around all windows, doors, inside corners and all
other penetrations will significantly improve your homes
thermal performance.
Waterproofing your home is absolutely necessary, vinyl siding
is not waterproof unto itself. After installing a quality
underlayment all vinyl accessories, J-channel, corners, and
utility trim should be nailed within 1/8" every 8-12" for
a straight, smooth, flawless appearance. All siding panels
cut to proper dimension to allow for expansion and contraction
should be nailed within 1/8" and 3/4" into a framing member
or "stud" every 16" on center. Proper installation is critical
to upholding the product warranty and to the performance
of that product.
This is just a fraction of information that most siding contractors
don't tell you. R&C
Installation is happy to inform you because we want you to
have a siding job you can trust.
